Beschreibung:
Problem Definition: In order to account for the chemistry occurring in the rocket plume before it gets diluted into the large-scale climate model grid-cell, parameterizations need to be developed and used in global models. Such a plume parameterization will be developed in LMDZ-INCA for further use by the other global models.
Research Objectives:
Development of a new global model version including the emission of pollutants from rocket launches and impact on gas phase ozone chemistry
Consider the chemistry in the plume exhaust before dilution in the global model
Include the aluminium cycle in the model and the perturbations associated with rocket launches and space debris
Consider different emission inventories to account for various types of fleet, emissions, fuel types and geographical distributions
Expected Results:
Ability to simulate the impact of rocket launches and space debris on atmospheric composition in LMDZ-INCA model
Quantification of the impact of various fleet scenarios of rocket launches on atmospheric composition and climate
Improved representation of plume processes and aluminium chemistry in the global atmospheric model
Secondments:
University of Leeds (UL, Leeds, United Kingdom, ca. 5 months): alumina chemistry and microphysics scheme
Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI, Helsinki, Finland, ca. 3 months): development of a sub-grid plume processing scheme for global models
Benefits:
You will be working within our international group of > 30 researchers with experience in a broad range of sciences.
You will get in contact with the other members of this international consortium.
You will benefit from the well-structured training program offered by the host institution and the SLICE consortium to develop skills and thorough understanding of space transportation systems and their environmental impact.
You will be employed by the host organization for 36 months.
You will participate in international conferences and secondments to other organisations within the SLICE network and in outreach activities targeted at a wide audience.
A competitive salary according to MSCA regulations (see page 118ff, https://ec.europa.eu/info/funding-tenders/opportunities/docs/2021-2027/horizon/wp-call/2023-2024/wp-2-msca-actions_horizon-2023-2024_en.pdf ), including a living allowance, a mobility allowance and, if eligible, a family allowance. The stated allowances represent the gross funding amounts. Employer contributions to social security, health insurance, and other statutory costs will be deducted in accordance with the applicable national regulations.
