Abstract:
At the Institute for Air Transportation Systems, a VTOL UAV with a takeoff mass of 22 kg is being developed, primarily powered by two JetCat P130-RX-B model engines. To enable vertical takeoff, the engines are swiveled accordingly. These kerosene-powered engines, with a maximum thrust of 13.25 kg (130 N), exhibit unique characteristics due to the thermodynamic combustion process and the opaque programming of the control electronics, which need to be quantified. Determining the operational behavior and system data of the engines for design and flight control is the focus of this work. An in-house modular thrust test rig is used to determine the parameters and operational behavior in the respective flight phases and operating conditions. In addition to the thrust curves, ground effects are also part of the measurement campaign.
