Abstract:
The ELAPSED project is researching novel components for electrically powered aircraft. A battery system was developed and researched for this purpose that is capable of arbitrarily adjusting the output voltage with the resolution of an individual cell voltage. A key factor here is increasing the efficiency of the motor controller during partial load operation by deliberately reducing the input voltage. Furthermore, a dedicated charger is unnecessary, as the battery voltage can be synchronized to an external AC or DC source and charging power can be drawn from it. The focus is also on maximum reliability and, consequently, on researching methods for deactivating and bridging individual battery cells in the event of a fault. The following publication summarizes the results of the investigations for drive trains with a nominal operating voltage of 400V and an electrical drive power of 80kW, as well as the underlying system architecture, and presents them in detail.
