Abstract:
The effect of the laminar-turbulent transition of the fuselage on the total drag of a glider was investigated both theoretically and experimentally. The theoretical work was conducted on a generic model of a single-seat fuselage, while the experimental wind tunnel measurements used a full-scale mock-up of a two-seat cockpit. The determined maximum changes in the effective drag area consistently range from 0.01 to 0.015 m^2.
