Research Associate (m/f/d) in the field of
Numerical Simulation and Optimization of Inlet Flows

We are exploring potentials and synergies through highly integrated aircraft development in numerous sub-projects at TU Braunschweig, University of Stuttgart, LUH Hannover and DLR Braunschweig in the new research centre SynTrac. We use interactions between the disciplines of aerodynamics, acoustics, flight physics, structural mechanics and thermodynamics through a multidisciplinary, cross-system view of the aircraft development process to develop future highly efficient aircraft through innovative approaches.

In subproject C03 at the Institute of Fluid Mechanics, you will design inlets and intakes for highly inte-grated jet engines using numerical simulation and adjoint optimization. Classical shape design as well as Active Flow Control (AFC) by utilizing e.g. suction or homogeneous blowing will be considered. The inlets shall achieve a high aerodynamic efficiency, generate a low distortion profile for the fan and at the same time they shall achieve a good use of the “Boundary layer ingestion” (BLI) effect. You will interact with many other tasks and PhD-students in the SYNTRAC consortium, e.g. jet engine design, aircraft design, experimental groups and numerical methods development.
